Arena Breakout, a game that many have referred to as Escape from Tarkov Mobile because of the striking similarities between the two games in style and substance, is set launch a closed beta test (CBT) in Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Announced on November 3 and with more details promised tomorrow, this will be the first widely available English-language CBT for the tactical first-person shooter and is a big step toward an eventual global launch.

According to the game's website, the Android-only closed beta will feature two game modes: Tac Ops and Covert Ops, and three maps: Farm, Valley, and North Villa.

Interested gamers can register for the CBT on the Arena Breakout website. The developers state that an iOS test is planned for the future.

What Is Arena Breakout?

Since its official unveiling earlier this year with an admittedly jaw-dropping trailer, Arena Breakout has attracted more than its fair share of attention.

In part, that is because the game has the kind of similarities with Escape from Tarkov that would make those in copyright law see dollar signs and pre-emptively ring up their estate agents.

But dollars don't mean anything here, as Arena Breakout is from Chinese publisher Tencent and their MoreFun games studio, and after a series of invite-only playtests and closed beta in China, the game is set for its first widely accessible English-language CBT.

Arena Breakout takes place in a fictional Eastern European state after a devastating war, which sees groups of bandits and private military fight over scant resources. For those that have played Escape from Tarkov, the game modes and maps will feel than a little familiar to you.

Tac Ops is Arena Breakout's answer to PMC. You will purchase weapons from the gun sellers, head into one of the three locations, and attempt to hunt down other players and NPCs, taking their loot before attempting to extract you and your teammates. If you fail to do so, you lose everything.

Covert Ops is essentially Escape from Tarkov's Scav mode, where you play as one of the - usually NPC - rogues. You enter the game with randomly generated weapons, gear, and items, and if you extract safely, you can keep them.

And like Battlestate Games' Escape from Tarkov, Arena Breakout features an expansive gunsmithing system, with the developers claiming there are over 700 weapon attachments in the game.

The game also features hunger and an injury and medical system, the likes of which haven't really been seen before in a mobile game.

Despite failing on the creativity front, Arena Breakout still looks like a hugely promising title, and we can't wait to try it.
