Project BloodStrike Development To End, Will Return With New Name

The battle royale game was a "test" and will disappear for a while before returning as something else entirely.

The development team behind Project: BloodStrike, a battle royale title that seemingly came out of nowhere at the tail-end of last year, has announced that development is to stop, with the game set to become something else entirely.

In a statement posted to the game's Twitter and subsequently Google-translated, the developers admit they had "no intention of making Project: BloodStrike as big as it is," revealing it to be little more than a test populated with assets from other NetEase games.

The reason for doing so was, in the developer's words, "to see if another BR game works for the current mobile fps genre."

Project: BloodStrie was soft-launched in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines in September of last year, though many outside these countries got involved through VPNs.

And recycled assets or not, the game found an audience, with many praising the title for its gunplay and movement, similar to that seen in the Call of Duty franchise. It even had a 'gunsmith' feature, offering a range of attachments for players to customize their weapons.

The game boasted impressive graphics, including a dynamic weather system that saw games go from sun-soaked to stormy and back again. For many, it was the perfect game to tide them over until they could get their hands on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.

Thankfully, there is good news for those that took a liking to Project Bloodstrike; the developers state that while Project: BloodStrike is no more, they will be working on the core game, "remastering" and eventually renaming it for a future release.

They didn't share any more details, but we expect to hear more later in 2023.
