Gems are the premium in-game currency in Clash of Clans. They allow you to purchase resources like Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir. Besides that, you can recover healing Heroes, boost your resource buildings, and complete your lengthy building upgrades by using Gems. They are extremely powerful and can often accelerate your progress through Clash of Clans.
However, Gems are notoriously difficult to get. You can purchase them from the in-game shop with money. But, not everyone has cash like that to spend freely. Lucky for you, there are several ways you can obtain Gems for free in Clash of Clans. Let's take a look at them.
How To Get Free Gems In Clash Of Clans
There are five proven ways to earn free Gems in Clash of Clans. These include completing achievements, participating in the Clan War Games, removing obstacles, utilizing the Gem Mine, and completing challenges and events.
Completing Achievements
Achievements are basic in-game tasks that can be completed for rewards such as XP and Gems. These tasks can range from linking your Village to a Supercell ID/Google Play to clearing a certain amount of obstacles from your Village. Most of them are milestones that encourage you to progress through the game. That being said, these tasks shouldn't be challenging to complete.

Participating In Clan War Games
Clan Games is a week-long Clan event held at the end of every month. There will be a list of challenges that each Clan member can choose to complete for points that will advance their Clan higher up the Reward Tiers.
These rewards are refreshed every month. It can include items such as Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir, Magic Items, and of course, Gems.
Removing Obstacles From Your Village
There are multiple removable obstacles in Clash of Clans. These include trees, logs, rocks, bushes, and other event-themed items. You can remove any either of them with either Gold or Elixir. There is a chance that you will receive a small number of free Gems in return for removing an obstacle.
Besides these obstacles, there is the Gem Box. It is a rare obstacle that will appear in your village just like any other item. If you remove the Gem Box from your village, you will earn 25 Gems.
Gem Mine In Builder Base
The Gem Mine is located in the Builder Base. It is a building that can produce Gems just like any other resource building. But before you can start reaping the rewards, you will first need to repair the Gem Mine for 120,000 Builder Elixir. Keep in mind that you will need to be at least Builder Hall level 3 first.
Once you've repaired the Gem Mine, you can expect to get at least 2.16 Gems per day at level 1 or most 4.8 Gems per day at the maximum level.
Completing Limited-Time Challenges/Events
Multiple challenges and events are regularly held in Clash of Clans. These include events such as the Barrel of Bones and Haunted and Undaunted. They usually last for several days and often require you to use certain troops or strategies to complete the challenge or event.
These are arguably more difficult to complete compared to Achievements as they sometimes require a high number of wins or troops that you have yet to unlock.
