The team behind Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile have dashed hopes that the game's soft launch will be expanded, stating that regions with "massive numbers of players" - name-checking North America and India - will likely not be used for the game's soft launch.

It's news that will disappoint many who are excited to play the game.

Currently only available in Australia, many hoped that the release of Season 2 this week would mark an expansion of the game's soft launch, and while we did get new weapons and game modes, no new regions were added. And we're now learning that Warzone Mobile's soft launch will be quite different from what is seen with other mobile games.

Answering a question posed in the game's official Discord channel, a member of the Warzone Mobile team stated that they would be "unlikely" to expand the soft launch to regions with a "massive number of players."

"It would kind of ruin the point, nothing is completely impossible through (sic) and there might be other reasons to potentially do it in somewhere like India or (North America)."

Soft launches of mobile games are commonplace. The gradual rollout to new regions allows developers to stress test servers, time to add more language options, and provide player support. Often mobile games do this over a matter of months, and by the time the game gets its global release, most already have access to it.

However, Warzone Mobile's soft launch appears more akin to a beta. The game is still without promised features, and based on their hesitance to release it to the wider public, it's clear they want the game to be in a much more complete state before the vast majority get their hands on it.

That means we may be waiting for the game's global release before we can play it. There is currently no fixed released date - other than the promise it will arrive in 2023 - so we could be waiting a while yet.

However, there is some good news here, especially if you live in a region without a "massive number of players," as you may find yourself at the front of the line for a shot at Warzone Mobile.

So, if you live in Vatican City or Nauru, keep your eye out for an announcement.
