The next legend coming to Apex Legends Mobile is set to be Tae Joon "Crypto" Park, a "brilliant hacker" and recon legend and one that will be familiar to those who have played the mainline game, debuting there back in 2020.

Crypto will be joining the game in Season 2.5: Hyperbeat, which also includes a brand new battle pass and a soft-rank reset for the game's ranked mode.

Far from the easiest legend to use, Crypto received a major rework which improved his Surveillance Drone, buffs that have made their way into Apex Legends Mobile.

To use Crypto, players will need to unlock him, and if you are curious about how and what his abilities are, this primer will explain it all.

How To Unlock Crypto In Apex Legends Mobile

Crypto has been released alongside Season 2.5: Hyperbeat and can be unlocked in one of two ways.

The first is by purchasing the legend using Syndicate Gold, the game's premium currency. Legends cost 750 Syndicate Gold (approx. $7) to unlock.

The other way is through the Hyperbeat battle pass.

Crypto can be unlocked for free through the new battle pass, and it can be for free. Players will need to collect 10 Crypto Fragments, which are all found in the free track of the Hyperbeat battle pass.

The Crypto Fragments are unlocked in the following tiers:

  • Tier 1
  • Tier 9
  • Tier 13
  • Tier 17
  • Tier 25

You gain two Crypto Fragments when you unlock each of the tiers above, and once you collect all ten, you can trade them in for Crypto.

If you don't collect enough or you don't choose to purchase Crypto, the Fragments will be converted to Legendary Fragments. These can be used to unlock another legend of your choice.

The fastest way to level up the battle pass tiers is by completing the weekly missions and Season Challenges.

Crypto's Abilities

Crypto is a recon legend, the second to arrive in Apex Legends Mobile after Bloodhound.

Crypto's abilities function much as he does in the mainline game, including his February rework, which made the legend, and his drone easier to use.

You can see his abilities in action in this leaked footage:

As well as his February rework, the Apex Legends Mobile developers have gone even further, revealing that Crypto's drone will now follow the legend and automatically track nearby enemies.

Here are his abilities:

  • Passive: Neurolink - Enemies and traps detected by your surveillance Drone are marked for your squad within 30 meters range.
  • Tactical: Surveillance Drone - Deploy a pilotable drone to surveil your surroundings. The drone detects enemy squads and battlefield hazards.
  • Ultimate: Drone EMP - Your Drone sets off an EMP blast that deals Shield damage, slows enemies, and disables traps.

Of course, when it comes to Apex Legends Mobile, there are also the legend perks that have now been revealed.

Crypto's Legend Perks

In Apex Legends Mobile, legends get three perk slots, separated into perks, finishers, and abilities.

You can select one of three Legend Perks for each of the three slots, which you will need to unlock by playing with Crypto and earning legend XP.

Here are Crypto's Legend Perks:

Perks

  • Self Destruct: Destroyed drones explode after 3s, slowing and damaging enemies caught in the blast.
  • Hidden User: Become semi-transparent when controlling drones.
  • System Scan: Your drone reveals an enemy's HP and armor after 3s of scanning.

Finishers

  • Battle Adaptation: Using your Finisher adds 100 points to your EVO Shield.

  • Interrogator: Using your Finisher reveals the location of your target's squad on the mini-map.
