Season 4 of Apex Legends Mobile may be coming next week - despite the game's imminent closure.

Apex Legends Mobile will be shutting down in May, but it will still get the highly-anticipated Season 4 update later this month, a leaker has claimed.

When the game's 'sunsetting' was announced last week, Respawn Entertainment did not indicate if the game would be receiving any updates, including the expected release of Season 4, which was originally set to come out in January but was pushed back to mid-February.

The update was expected to add the Olympus map, offensive legend Horizon, and the second - and final - signature attachment, this one for Wattson.

Now, a usually reliable leaker, Twitter user TheLeakerBot, has claimed that a small update released after Respawn's announcement has set the stage for the release of Season 4.

The update includes the event 'From the Stars', featuring a picture puzzle players work to reveal by completing challenges. The picture features Horizon and her son. The event is also set to end on February 14, lining up nicely with the expected launch date of Season 4.

Also included in this update were files related to Olympus. Fans have been desperate to dive into what would be the game's third map ever since footage emerged from a test build back in August. However, the map didn't turn up in any subsequent updates, and it will be the definition of bittersweet if Season 4 does launch with the map in tow.

One thing is for certain; players won't be buying any new battle passes or premium cosmetics in the coming weeks. All in-app purchases were halted with the announcement that the game's development had ended and the servers were to come down.

What is most likely is that, if Season 4 is released, players will get the battle pass for free, a small - but needed - gesture to a playerbase who have supported a game, often financially, but who now won't have access to it and have been told no refunds.

With an expected release date of February 14, and the game scheduled to close on May 1, fans of the game will get ten weeks with the update.

The May 1 closure means Apex Legends Mobile won't have made it to its first anniversary from release. Respawn Entertainment cited the poor "quality, quantity, and cadence" of updates as reasons for the closure.
