The Final Fantasy VII story is rather simple; you play as an ex-SOLDIER named Cloud who is a mercenary hired by an eco-terrorist group that wants to take down the mega-corporation SHINRA who is sucking the Planet dry of all of its natural resources called mako.
Mako is a resource that is used for many different things, and one of those is turning SOLDIER members into stronger and better fighters.
Cloud, the main character, has a very important connection to the Mako and the Planet.
This leads him and his companions on a long trip to try and stop SHINRA and also their most powerful SOLDIER, Sephiroth.
