Warzone Mobile To Get Lucky Draws, Suggests Job Listing

Fans of Call of Duty have plenty to look forward to this year. There is Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 for the traditionalists, and then there is the sequel to the unbelievably popular Warzone, while that game has seen better days, its second go-around will be sure to make a big splash on its release later this year.

Then there is Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile - set to bring the iconic Verdansk to mobile devices. The game is currently in alpha testing, and all signs point to it being a near 1:1 remake of the Warzone that many millions of gamers fell in love with, which is good news.

What is less good is how the game will likely be monetized. Free at release, the game will be financially supported by the usual round of skin bundles and battle passes, which is fair enough, but it isn't likely to stop there.

Mobile gaming usually ramps up the in-game monetization to eleven with multiple in-game currencies, lucky draws, crates, and a conveyor built of events, all in an attempt to get you to open your wallet. Call of Duty: Mobile is a prime example of this, and it looks like one of that game's most egregious money-makers is coming to Warzone Mobile.

Warzone Mobile is currently in development, and with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 also in development, it is all hands on deck for the ten-plus studios that work on the franchise, and that means staff need to be hired, and that means we can sometimes parse little bits of information about what we can expect from the game from the job listings.

One such job listing is for a Content Designer at Solid State Studio, one of the many secondary development teams that work on the Call of Duty franchise. The job listing states that applicants will be responsible for designing "seasonal themes, assets for battle pass, battle crates, lucky draws, holiday event, and other events."

And that's why it looks very likely Warzone Mobile will be getting lucky draws, which is perhaps no surprise as they are a regular sight in COD: Mobile.

For those unaware of how lucky draws actually work in COD: Mobile, here is a rather depressing run-through.

Players buy a ticket and then get a spin, with the player being guaranteed to win one of the ten limited-time cosmetic rewards on offer. However, the items are of different rarities, and while it seems that you have an equal chance of getting the rarest item, in fact, the rarer the item, the lower percentage chance you have of drawing it. What's worse, each draw gets increasingly more expensive, and if you draw ten times (which you are highly incentivized to do), you can easily find yourself spending close to $300 USD.

The game only started revealing the odds of drawing an item after player backlash shortly after the game's launch in October 2019. Maybe with the increased attention brought by the Warzone brand, another such backlash could rid the franchise of them completely.
