One Punch Man: World is currently in a closed beta test. The gaming is shaping up to be something very good when it does come out. We've had the chance to get our hands on the game, let's take a closer look at it!
One Punch Man: World is an up-and-coming action-packed gacha title that takes place within the world of the very popular One Punch Man series.
The manga and anime are both centered around the main character, Saitama, who is a hero who can defeat anything with just one punch.
Naturally, the series is about him wanting to fight stronger creatures, monsters, humans, cyborgs, etc.
In the One Punch Man universe, there is a central government that manages and promotes heroes, and within that, there's a ranking system and a bunch of other interesting politics that happen.
In this strange world, the new gacha game takes place, and you get to play through important story moments from the beloved series.
Sometimes, you will need to have a certain character in your party, and other times, the game lets you create your own canon, so to speak, by bringing in Genos to a fight that Saitama originally was in.
As with all gacha games, there are some interesting mechanics and quirks within that make it something unique; let's take a closer look at that!
One Punch Man World Combat Overview
One Punch Man: World feels more like a class brawler or beat-em-up type game like Streets of Rage; it's a welcome change, especially with so many new gacha games lately chasing after the Genshin Impact audience.
There are cooldowns, of course, for your character, and each character also has a unique skill set that needs to be mastered, but it does feel like a breath of fresh air.
When you are going into combat encounters, you are more so going to be focused on finding synergies within a team based on the other characters' support, which is granted to them by their Impression Arms (more on that later.)
Most fights are decent challenges where you are fighting either a group of powerful enemies or one big giant boss. In fights your main focus is going to be hitting your skill rotation properly and activating a break, this break then allows your other three team mates to break the defense of the enemy you're fighting. Usually after doing this you will have your ultimate ready.
It really does seem like One Punch Man: World is focused on team building, especially on the individual aspects of a character's growth.
One Punch Man World Characters Explained
Currently, there are four character types within the game: Red - Morale, Green - Technique, Blue - Assault and Purple - Overpower.
This is like every gacha game in relation to what "type" or "element" a character represents. Every character in the game has four pillars of their character build: level, chip, skills and Impression Arms.
Every character has a Potential that can be leveled up with dupes as well, up to six times. These dupes will increase stats and other characteristics.
Chips are equipment that you can equip, equipment can be found across the many levels of the game. Each character has a total of two slots, and every piece of equipment can be leveled up.
One Punch Man World Impression Arms Overview
Now the big one, Impression Arms. In other gacha games, there are things like Light Cones, which you can acquire from a gacha banner, which will grant you something to equip onto your character. In One Punch Man: World, they've taken a different approach to this system.
Every character has three or four unique slots that represent their skills. These can be support skills, buffer skills, debuff skills, attack skills, etc. They can only be unlocked if you pull the appropriate Impression Arm from a gacha banner. Do keep in mind that only one skill can be equipped at a time as well,
Impression Arms are the one thing you get the most from a pull on a banner and the rarities range from R to SR. They aren't THAT difficult to get, but there do seem to be specific banners set around acquiring specific Impression Arms, similarly to how Honkai Star Rail does Light Cones.
We have a feeling that the Impression Arms system may be controversial to some players; locking specific support skills for a character behind something that is pulled on a banner can be a bit troublesome, but as it stands currently, with the rates and the amount of premium currency the game is handing out, it's not too big of an issue.
As it stands, the current Closed Beta's gacha rates are subject to change, and the developer has said they are tweaked to be higher than what the game will be on release; there's really no telling how the game will be in relation to acquiring SSR's and other characters and Impression Arms at release but at least we know how the unique systems within the game will be working though.
