PUBG Mobile has been crowned the 'Esports Mobile Game of the Year' at the Esports Awards 2022, taking place in Las Vegas.

This is the first time PUBG Mobile has won, following nominations in both 2021 and 2020, when the category was first introduced. Rival battle royale Free Fire beat out PUBG Mobile on those previous occasions.

The team behind the game responded to their award by tweeting: "we're honored!"

A total of eight mobile gaming titles were nominated under the category of 'Esports Mobile Game of the Year'; the other nominees were Free Fire, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Pokémon Unite, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Call of Duty: Mobile, and Brawl Stars.

PUBG Mobile esports is hugely successful, with a multi-tiered competitive landscape that includes the PUBG Mobile Club Open, PUBG Mobile Pro League, and PUBG Mobile Global Championship, the latter of which sees its grand finals take place next month in Jakarta, Indonesia.

That tournament marks the pinnacle of PUBG Mobile esports, featuring sixteen of the best teams from around the world and boasting a USD 4 million prize pool.

Other winners on the night include 100 Thieves CEO Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag for 'Esport Personality of the Year', while Riot Games' tactical shooter Valorant scooped 'Esport Game of the Year'.
