The upcoming patch 4.0 update will introduce various changes to improve the late-stage gameplay experience in Wild Rift.
Riot will focus on the three-act gameplay structure in Wild Rift - particularly the late stages of the game - in patch 4.0. The focus of these improvements is to increase the opportunities for comebacks while maintaining the "frenetic pace" of Wild Rift.
These improvements range from a new defensive structure called 'Inhibitors' and a new mechanic which will restrict the capacity for players to 'turtle' during the end-game stages of a match.
Here are all the details about the late-game improvements in Wild Rift patch 4.0.
Patch 4.0 Will Make Late-Game More Competitive In Wild Rift
Inhibitor Respawns will be added to Wild Rift. When the inner turret is destroyed, an inhibitor will respawn after a certain amount of time in the same place where the inner turret was destroyed. Inhibitors cannot attack and when there is an inhibitor present, enemy super minions cannot spawn in that particular lane. Destroyed inhibitors will also respawn after a certain period of time.
With this addition, the game won't feel like it's over if you lose an inner turret early in the game, and you'll be able to focus more on facing off against the enemy team and less on their minions.
Changes to inhibitors and turrets won't be made live during the initial 4.0 patch, but you can expect to see them in one of the following patches after the update.
A new mechanic will be introduced to limit turtling. Once you reach the super late game, Towers will begin to burn - they're essentially taking self-damage.
Here are the details of how it works. Once your reach 22 minutes of in-game time, your outermost turret in each lane will start to burn and lose 25 magic resistance and 25 armor. After this, they will continue to burn and start to lose 3% max health every 3 seconds. You can't rely on the self-inflicted damage to destroy the turret however as once its health drops below 25%, it will no longer take burn damage.
While this mechanic is expected to be rarely triggered, the devs want players to feel the urgency of pushing their advantages or coming back from disadvantages. Future changes will be introduced to this mechanic depending on how well it performs once the update drops.
