With various lore-themed experiences and a highly-anticipated Arcane 2 event planned, Riot Games is hoping to make 2024 a massive year for Wild Rift.
In 2023, Wild Rift made significant steps forward by introducing much-needed changes to certain champion roles, expanding build paths, adding new items, and offering novel game modes like Arena.
With a new year upon us, Head of League Studio, Andrei "Meddler" van Roon, shared his outlook on what Wild Rift players can hope to see in 2024. There is plenty to look forward to in the game's development roadmap, with something exciting for every player out there.
In 2024, you can expect the game to become more engaging, both in how events are created and the storytelling behind the game's deep lore. On top of this, a massive Arcane event will be coming to the game in conjunction with the long-awaited release of Season 2.
Ultimately, Riot aims to connect its various games and unify the world of Runeterra with the roadmap that has been set for the coming year.
Riot Promises Thematically Richer Experiences In Wild Rift
While gameplay is at the heart of Wild Rift, Riot hopes to deliver deeper and richer experiences outside of just that. From Arcane to the Sentinels of Light event, Wild Rift has been a part of monumental storytelling moments for League of Legends. However, Andrei admits that the "characters and lore across our different games haven't always felt completely cohesive."
To fix this, Andrei describes that the developers have created a new approach where future storytelling in the League of Legends universe will be a part of one shared canon. This would allow players to become more engaged in the lore when new events, champions, and more are released in Wild Rift.
How this manifests in 2024 will be one to keep an eye out for. It was hinted that the developers were looking to revisit existing League stories and expand on those where needed.
Wild Rift x Arcane Season 2 Event Planned For Late 2024
When Arcane Season 1 was released, a massive Wild Rift event was launched that, among other items, featured the arrival of Arcane-themed skins for champions such as Jinx and Vi. With Arcane Season 2 set to be released in November 2024, you can expect a similar event to be held later this year.
Riot stated that the final Wild Rift patch will be "heavily Arcane Season 2-focused." In it, players can find various in-game experiences centered around the characters, stories, and themes from the show.
The exact date of this patch has yet to be revealed.
Region-Specific Wild Rift Events Will Become More Accessible For All Players
Exclusive events boasting special items and rewards are often held in the China version of Wild Rift. Unfortunately, these events are not accessible by players with the global version of the game and have made many in the community feel excluded.
Thankfully, the developers have acknowledged this and vow to do better in 2024. They state that one of their biggest objectives this year is to ensure that events are increasingly shared with players all around the world.
With that said, 2024 looks to be an exciting one for all Wild Rift players. It's going to be a fun ride.
