Clash of Clans: Hero Guide To The Royal Champion

The Royal Champion can save your troops by destroying base defenses in Clash of Clans. When used correctly, she can inflict severe damages to your opponents. Here's a guide on how to do that!

The Royal Champion is the fourth and latest Hero added to Supercell's Clash of Clans. She boasts a relatively average health and high damage output compared to other Heroes in the game. Her in-game description is:

Over the Wall and at them! The Royal Champion is only afraid of four things, and the enemy isn't one of them. She attacks with her spear at short range and throws her shield to take down defenses once her Seeking Shield ability is unlocked!

With this description in mind, she is a low-range Hero who prioritizes targeting base defenses in battle. Walls are not an issue for her as she can jump over them. Also, she can attack both ground and air units.

How to Unlock Royal Champion

The Royal Champion is unlocked once your Town Hall reaches Level 13. You will need 60,000 Dark Elixir to build their Altar. Follow-up upgrades per level will cost you Dark Elixir too.

The maximum level that the Royal Champion can be upgraded to is Level 30. Each upgrade will improve her DPS, Regeneration time, and HP. For the full list of upgrade costs and stats per level, find them here.

What is 'Seeking Shield?'

Seeking Shield is the Royal Champion's active ability. Once activated, she will regain a large portion of her HP. On top of this, she will launch her Shield that will seek 4 base defense targets - regardless of distance - and deal devasting damage in the process.

Similar to other Heroes, this activie ability can be upgraded every 5 levels. This ability will also be automatically activated before the Royal Champion is defeated.

Offensive Strategy

The Royal Champion is a Base Defense specialist meaning that her favorite target in battle will always be Base Defenses. Once all of them have been destroyed, she will target other structures.

The Hero Walk is a popular choice with Clashers and the Royal Champion is no different. Like with the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, and Grand Warden, she will be deployed by herself with an entourage of Healers that will replenish her health while she jumps over walls and destroys base defenses.

Check out the video below to get an idea of how to properly use this strategy.

Alternatively, the Royal Champion can be deployed with a swarm of high-HP troops like Hog Riders, Miners, and Giants. It's ideal to keep a few Rage or Earthquake spells to hasten the destruction of base defenses. Her Seeking Shield ability should be activated to destroy high DPS base defenses.

That being said, regardless of which strategy you choose, it is almost always best to deploy Royal Champion behind a wall of troops to cover her from Clan Castle reinforcements while she unleashes damage from range.

Defensive Strategy

When dealing against a raid by an opposing Royal Champion, it's to plan the placements of your defenses to counter her, especially with her Seeking Shield ability.

With that in mind, it's best to place low DPS defenses like Cannons, Mortars, Archer Towers, and Bomb Towers on the edges of your village to tank the damage from a Royal Champion.

It also helps if these defenses are clumped together to potentially absorb the Seeking Shield ability if it is activated early. Additionally, if you would like to distract the Royal Champion, you could set up Skeleton traps nearby high DPS base defenses to act as a diversion while your main defenses take her out.
