Just like any other video game, Fortnite is designed to be suitable for specific age groups, a process typically determined by official rating boards worldwide.

Epic Games has recently revealed its decision to incorporate IARC ratings into Fortnite Creative content. This article will delve into the significance of age ratings and their implications for Fortnite's future.

Fortnite & IARC

To play Fortnite, players are required to meet the Teen age category, as designated by ESRB, or be at least 12 years old, in line with PEGI's rating.

Game ratings like these act as valuable guidance for parents and guardians, enabling them to make informed decisions about the content their children access.

Since its inception in 2018, Fortnite Creative mode has been the canvas for countless player-generated experiences.

These include escape rooms and death runs, among others, which might not be suitable for all age brackets.

Epic Games has taken a significant step to bolster parental control over Fortnite Creative content by forging a partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC).

This collaboration means that all creative experiences will now bear an age rating, ranging from E to a maximum Teen rating.

To acquire a rating, creative players who have either created or are currently working on experiences must complete a questionnaire provided by IARC to determine the appropriate age rating.

For experiences that have already been published, this rating process must be completed before October 16; otherwise, their creative content will be removed.

Epic Games' move is a commendable stride toward fostering a safer gaming environment, particularly for children and young players. It also offers an opportunity to promote educational content more effectively to younger audiences.
