The Bug Out! event will be returning to Pokémon GO with a flurry of new Pokémon, challenges, raids, bonuses, and more! Take a look at them!
After an amazing Pokémon GO Fest in Sapporo, Japan, Niantic wants to celebrate the hard work and catching prowess of all the Trainers who attended. How, you ask? By bringing back the Bug Out! event of the past into an Ultra Unlock: Bug Out! event with even more rewards and bonuses!
Here's everything you need to know about it!
Pokémon Debuts
Three Pokémon will be making their Pokémon GO debuts in the Bug Out! event. These are:
- Grubbin
- Charjabug
- Vikavolt
Two of these Pokémon can evolve. First, you can use 25 Grubbin Candy to evolve Grubbin into Charjabug. If you're near an active Magnetic Lure Module, you can use 100 Grubbin Candy to evolve Charjabug into Vikavolt.
Mega Scizor Debut
Mega Scizor will be making its long-awaited Pokémon Go debut in Mega Raids. If you're lucky, you may even encounter a limited-edition Shiny one!
2x XP will be awarded for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
Ultra Unlock Event Bonuses
Several bonuses will be waiting in store for you during the Ultra Unlock section of the Bug Out! event. These are:
- Additional Candy for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice Throws, Great Throws, and Excellent Throws.
- Unown T will appear in Raid Battles during the Bug Out! event.
- Pansage will appear in the wild and in raids around the world during the Bug Out! event.
- Timed Research focused on catching Bug-type Pokémon will be available throughout the event. Complete research tasks to earn items, Pokémon encounters, and Scizor Mega Energy.
Limited-edition Shiny version of Unown T and Pansage will be available if you're lucky.
Collection Challenge
A new Collection Challenge will be coming in the Bug Out! event where you'll have to capture Bug-type Pokémon! Complete the challenge to receive the Bug Catcher Pose and 15,000 XP.
You can purchase the Bug Catcher Pose from the in-game shop after the Bug Out! event ends.
Wild Encounters
Eighteen Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in Wild Encounters. These are the Pokémon:
- Caterpie
- Dewpider
- Grubbin
- Joltik
- Karrablast
- Kricketot
- Ledyba
- Pansage
- Shelmet
- Spinarak
- Surskit
- Venipede
- Weedle
- Wurmple
- Yanma
- Pineco (if you're lucky)
- Skorupi (if you're lucky)
- Dwebble (if you're lucky)
Additionally, for the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter Shiny Venipede if you're lucky.
Group Bonuses
Niantic will be rewards Trainers for working together! If three or more Trainers join an in-person Raid Battle, even more of a certain wild Bug-type Pokémon will appear for fifteen minutes in a 300-meter radius around the Gym that hosted the raid. The Pokémon that will appear in greater numbers change each day.

- August 11: Caterpie
- August 12: Spinarak
- August 13: Kricketot
- August 14: Venipede
- August 15: Weedle
- August 16: Ledyba
Raids
We have a new list of Pokémon that will be appearing in One-Star, Three-Star, Five-Star, and Mega Raids. Here's a full breakdown:
One-Star Raids
Five Pokémon will be appearing in One-Star raids. These are:
- Joltik
- Pansage
- Paras
- Pineco
- Unown T
Three-Star Raids
Four Pokémon will be appearing in Three-Star Raids. These are:
- Forretress
- Pinsir
- Shuckle
- Venemoth
Five-Star Raids
One Pokémon will be appearing in Five-Star Raids. This is Genesect (Chill Drive).
Mega Raids
One Pokémon will be appearing in Mega Raids. This is Mega Scizor.
Field Research Task Encounters
25 Pokémon will available be to encounter upon completing Field Research tasks. These are:
