Reports suggest that Ubisoft and Level Infinite's upcoming project, Assassin's Creed Jade, could see its worldwide launch delayed to 2025.
Assassin's Creed Jade made waves when it was officially unveiled at Gamescom 2023. The action-adventure RPG game will notably be the first title in the cult-classic AC franchise to be specifically developed for Android and iOS mobile devices.
Set in ancient China, the game promises an "iconic Assassin's Creed experience" as players embark on an open-world journey to uncover the mysteries and conspiracies of the Qin Dynasty era. Familiar elements such as stealth, parkour, and assassinations are also enveloped within the game's core gameplay mechanics.
Naturally, such a promise will result in a lot of anticipation – which Jade has. However, recent news suggests that hopeful players may need to wait some time before they can experience this game first-hand.
Assassin's Creed Jade Release Date Delayed To Next Year
According to a report from Reuters, Tencent – Level Infinite's parent company – has reassigned key personnel from Assassin's Creed Jade's development team to their recently launched party game, DreamStar. As the report further states, this move was "Tencent's answer to rival NetEase's hit 'Eggy Party'".
Tencent's Chief Strategy Officer, James Mitchell, stated in an earnings call:
We're focusing on fewer bigger budget games. Typically, we're seeking to make the biggest bets around games that either iterate on a successful IP or games that are iterating around proven gameplay success within a niche and taking those to a more mass market.
This shift in important minds will undoubtedly have a series of effects on the development timeline for Assassin's Creed Jade. The largest of which cannot be ignored is its release date. The upcoming title was slated for a release in 2024, however, with these changes, this no longer appears feasible.
In the same Reuters report, three sources familiar with this matter stated that it will be likely for Assassin's Creed Jade to eschew a launch this year in favor of a 2025 release.
This news may be a blow for some, but for many, this is yet another chapter in the long development path the game has been on. It is believed that before its official reveal, Assassin's Creed Jade had been in the works for at least four years.
With another year to further fine-tune the game, players can expect more beta tests to be conducted in the future. To participate in one of these coveted tests, we recommend pre-registering at the game's official website.
