Defense Merging is a massive new feature that has been introduced to Clash of Clans in the latest update.
When you upgrade to Town Hall 16, you will be given the option to purchase the ability to merge several Defenses instead of purchasing new Defenses from the Shop. The final product, a Merged Defense,will have twice as much (or more) power than a regular Defense.
The two buildings being merged must be upgraded to their maximum level before you merge them. Merging buildings is permanent, so you cannot undo anything to reverse it once you have combined two Defenses.

All Merged Defenses In Clash Of Clans
There are currently two Merged Defenses in Clash of Clans: The Multi-Archer Tower and the Ricochet Cannon.
Multi-Archer Tower
The Multi-Archer Tower is a combination of two Archer Towers. It is capable of dealing equal damage to three different enemies on the battlefield. If there are less than three targets available, then the Multi-Archer will attack the other targets more frequently.
For example, if there is only one enemy, then they will be shot by three arrows. If there are only two enemies, then one of the enemies will be shot at twice.

Ricochet Cannon
The Ricochet Cannon is a combination of two Cannons. This Defense is capable of dealing twice the amount of damage to enemies as a Level 21 Cannon.
As the name suggests, the Ricochet Cannon's ammo can bounce from its initial target to hit a second enemy. It will not hit a third target regardless of the proximity.
