Supercell has confirmed that the Town Hall update cycle in Clash of Clans has been changed to roughly 12 months in between new Town Hall levels.
Clash of Clans updates do not come as big as new Town Hall levels. The game undergoes a massive shift whenever a new Town Hall is introduced thanks to the new troops, buildings, upgrades, features, and more that it brings.
So, it would sound reasonable for most players to have a lengthy period in between novel Town Hall levels. This space separating major updates would give players the time needed to not only adjust to the updated meta, but to catch up with all of their much-needed upgrades.
In the current cycle, new Town Hall levels are introduced to Clash of Clans every 18 months, as was outlined in a previous Supercell statement. However, new information from the Clash team confirms that this cycle has been updated to reflect a shorter time frame between new levels.
Supercell Confirms 12-Month Cycle For New Town Hall Releases In Clash Of Clans
On February 19, 2024, the Clash team held a Reddit Q&A where they answered the community's burning questions. From queries about potential Clan Alliances to requests for certain quality-of-life improvements, many topics were discussed.
One question in particular raised a few eyebrows. The user asked if the new Town Hall schedule has been updated to 12 months instead of the regular 18. The basis of this question was due to Town Hall 16 coming earlier than expected – only a mere 14 months after Town Hall 15 was added.
Surprisingly, the Clash team agreed that this was the case:
Yes, it’ll now be roughly a 12-month cycle between new Town Hall levels. There was no particularly strong reason for the 18-month cycle as the schedule.
This statement confirms that the new Town Hall update cycle isnow roughly 12 months.
This would also lead to suggest that Town Hall 17 may be released around December 2024 as Town Hall 16 was launched in December 2023.
Why Has The Town Hall Update Schedule Changed?
A couple of reasons were behind the shortening of this schedule. For the most part, it was due to the larger development team they have Supercell. This allows them to experiment with more ideas and opens the door for faster development.
A secondary reason is that the Clash team aims to lower the upgrade times. They describe Clash of Clans as being about progression, so lowering upgrade times would motivate players to continue playing and upgrading.
This is the Clash team's reasoning in full:
Moving it [the Town Hall update schedule] to 12 months helps us lower the upgrade times since Town Halls don’t need to last as long as they have in the past. We also have a much larger development team which has allowed us to come up with new, fun ideas for new Town Hall designs. We hope each year having a new Town Hall at a predictable time will create a more consistent experience for players.
With this new schedule in place, players can expect more frequent Town Hall updates in the future. Needless to say, time is of the essence and if you want to make the most out of each Town Hall level, you better start upgrading your troops, buildings, and more to the highest possible level before new upgrades are introduced to the game.
